  • Karen's Heart: The True Story of a Brave Baby Orangutan

2019 Silver Winner - Independent Book Publishers Association Benjamin Franklin Awards & 2019 National Parenting Product Awards Winner

It started with a murmur and ended with a cheer! This colorful, hardcover, children’s book is the true story of Karen, a Sumatran orangutan at the San Diego Zoo, who won the hearts of everyone around her while she was growing up. It chronicles her short stay in the Zoo’s baby animal nursery, her reintroduction to her orangutan family, and then her brave journey through history-making open heart surgery and a challenging recovery.

Karen’s poignant story, written by Georgeanne Irvine, is illustrated with engaging photographs. The book also includes a section featuring fun facts about orangutans!

Karen’s Heart, published by San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Press, is part of its Hope and Inspiration Series.
