As San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance celebrates its 110th birthday, we’re looking back at more than a century of wildlife conservation, innovation, and determination. It all began in 1916, when Dr. Harry Wegeforth heard the roar of lions in Balboa Park and was inspired to create the San Diego Zoo. From those first roars to today’s global conservation efforts, generations of dedicated people have helped shape a future where wildlife can thrive. Celebrate this remarkable legacy with our Colorful Lion Collection, featuring Rex the Lion—a vibrant design originally created in honor of the San Diego Zoo’s 100th anniversary and a fitting tribute to the lions that helped inspire it all.
